Gun control is one of those topics that have not had much improvement on either side because both sides are completely against each other. On one side you have liberal gun control advocates who want to make laws to control who can purchase a fire arm, also a lot are trying to get rid of guns completely. On the other side you have conservative gun owners who feel like their “individual right to bear arms” (USA Today) will be taken away from them if laws were passed that would affect them from buying guns. The authors have made very good arguments about why their side is better and I will be talking about why we should not band but only “keep mentally ill people from buying guns” (USA Today).
Gun control seems to have many good points as to why laws should be made to control the amount of weapons that are given to citizens. Many gun stores around the country “sell firearms without doing background checks” on the buyers (Los Angeles Times 2015). That means that many criminals can easily go into any gun store and purchase a used gun with little to no problem at all. In a poll given to “401 NRA (national rifle association) members and 431gun owner, non NRA members, where they were asked if there should be a background check done when purchasing a used gun, 69% of NRA members and 85% of non-member gun owners agreed that this should be done” (Los Angeles Times 2015). This shows that many gun owners do not feel threatened when it comes to laws being passed that could help protect citizens from being shot by criminals purchasing guns so easily. That averages out to “9,263 murders per year, or 25 murders per day” (Sager). This results in very easy access to obtain guns not just for people who are stable enough to own guns, but also those ...

... a weapon that can be used to protect themselves from any danger presented to them.
One thing that could be done is background checks for anyone that wants to purchase a weapon, not just that but make sure to check up on them throughout the year to make sure the gun is being used for the right purpose. But make this process to be quick and easy on anyone that wants to purchase a gun and would work easily with anyone’s busy schedule. Also there would be no limit on the amount of weapons you can have as long as you meet the requirements to handle for the different types of weapons out there so that many of the gun enthusiast will not have a problem on purchasing guns they want. I feel like these could really help both sides come to an agreement or at least start a process that will one day help control all the murders and guns in America so that people can feel safe.

Essay Gun Control Laws Should Be Legal

- There are currently 88 guns for every 100 people living in the United States. That is not even counting the numerous illegal weapons that our government could not account for. We have so many guns in this country and very few laws on who can own them. With this in mind, it is easy to see how simple it is for guns to get into the wrong hands of criminals and mentally ill and cause harm. I feel that guns cause a lot more harm than good and there should be more gun control laws. There should be more gun control laws because guns are rarely used for self-defense, there would not be as many guns for criminals to steal, and there would be a reduced number of gun deaths....   [tags: Gun politics in the United States, Firearm]
